Right, my decision. Fortunately, I am old enough to be able to deal with the consequences ;)

Doesn't affect me anyway, since Viebrockhaus was already out for us because of their uninterested employees.

So I’m going to go back a few decades. Most people here don’t even know anymore what it was like to build in the GDR. Slowly, very slowly, old memories occasionally come back here. When you hear that there aren’t even any nails anymore. As my father always said, you will still straighten out old nails so that you have some.

A house nowadays has also become a consumer item. Like a car, a wardrobe, or a new TV. I go to the model park, pick one out, and then have it built. Money also doesn’t matter, the interest rates are cheap. What matters now is no longer the investment sum but the amount of the installment that can still be managed.

But how was it actually back then? The excavation for the basement was done by hand. Then a truck came with a few tons of sand. After weeks of organizing and using connections, the cement was secured. The concrete was mixed by yourself. And it went on like that. And yes, the builders were also working, mostly the builder’s wife as well and now the children were already there too. But back then you were twice as happy if you got a few tiles somewhere. Of course, you couldn’t choose anything. You had to take whatever was available. Or when on Friday afternoon the truck with the hollow block bricks arrived and they had to be unloaded by hand.

Who still builds themselves today? Well, I did and built completely without credit. Only from ongoing income. Sure, it takes 2-3 years. But the good house also dries out for a few months in winter. There are no mold problems.

If I build a house today with 36cm Poroton, I don’t need to put on expensive insulation. With proper lime-cement plaster inside and outside, I have a 40cm wall with the best and natural insulating properties. And how much do the planed Poroton bricks cost now? A pallet with 60 bricks costs 160€. A whole house with lintels, adhesive, and concrete I would say about 8,000€. The first row should be done by a mason, then it is glued. It’s like kindergarten. And today you can still mix the concrete yourself. How much does 20m³ of ready-mixed concrete from the concrete mixer cost? 2,500€. That’s not 20,000 from the construction company.

I also think that for those who can’t or don’t want to do anything themselves, the dream of their own house will soon remain unachievable.

and I just heard why KG pipes are scarce (I didn’t know that until now). KG pipes are apparently made from a byproduct of kerosene production. Since there hasn’t been much flying for a long time, little kerosene is needed and of course produced as well. What follows from that: We have to fly more again so that we can build again

Take HT (without knowing whether these are scarce as well). They are more durable anyway.

Do you actually believe what you’re saying yourself? Well, it was fun to read, but that’s about it. Congratulations on this utterly senseless mental outpouring :D

But you can’t compare that with today. I myself come from the GDR. Childcare was top-organized as soon as the child turned one. You also can’t compare the work with today. In the GDR, nothing was designed for maximum yield with minimal input. On the contrary: everyone had the right to a workplace. Where in the GDR five people worked on a task, now only one does. Accordingly, the working day was much less stressful. Of course, there are exceptions. But in my family circle, a lot was built and basically your statements are accurate. But if you look closely, half the construction was organized during working hours and often also carried out during working hours.
