Wait and see. The Russians are threatening that they will only supply gas again when the West lifts the sanctions. Why would they say that if the sanctions weren’t really hitting them? So far they might have managed to cover it up quite well, but this statement alone shows me that they are backed into a corner. And the worse the sanctions hit the "ordinary Russians," the greater the pressure on Putin will be. I also hardly believe that the "ordinary Russian" has more to eat than we do. They are just much more frugal and can endure it better and longer than we spoiled Europeans. But eventually the point will come when it all collapses.

May I suggest that the political discussion round creates its own thread? I would like to discuss the mentioned topic of construction costs more here. Masks, Corona, Putin, etc. are so irrelevant to me at the moment when I see how my reserve is dwindling in the renovation project.

I thought the same yesterday. Why don't they just keep delivering their insanely expensive gas if the sanctions don't matter? Someone here had already mentioned that the entire poor population (and that is a lot of Russians) doesn't really notice much because they already had nothing to give up. I see slight possibilities of rapprochement coming towards us, but I think it will still take time.

For the sake of clarity, I would rather start a new cost thread. This one hasn’t been one for a long time.

Just a report from the press – I just didn't feel like digging deeper right now. But apparently the articles have been too well hidden here for months for you to find them – or you don’t read Focus, Spiegel, Bild, n-tv, Süddeutsche, RND etc.

Today's press:

From May:

P.S. The car from the Stone Age costs about €11,500 converted – with an average income in Russia of under €1,000 and a minimum wage of €160 (figures are gross). Even with state support, the average simple Russian in the countryside can hardly afford it anymore – and you call that a luxury car?
From August:

I can step in here. The registration numbers for May (-85%) come from the Russian Economic Association AEB. The primary source can be found on a .ru website in the local language.
