But as a professional, you have the big advantage that you can properly assess quality. The net salary sounds very low in this forum environment, of course. But that depends on the region and the employer. My husband is an IT specialist and doesn’t earn more (for that he would probably have to get in the car and commute quite a bit). I, as an educator, earn €400 more with one hour less work per week. But I also have colleagues who go home with €1600 net on a 40-hour week and shift work... private employer after all.

I live 400 km away from the border. Don't worry, it's still worth it. Besides, the hardware store there is also open on Sundays.

In Castorama, for example, there is a whole wall full of sinks. 50 or 80 varieties. No idea. Great selection, great prices, you won't find that in any German hardware store.
Interior doors with partial glass cost less than 100 euros. Top quality. I can only say what I have seen. Germans were pulling out pallets of plasterboard and OSB boards and loading them onto trailers and small trucks.

I imagine it like this, how the Danes leave the border shops here with several shopping carts full of alcohol and snacks :)

So you don’t just drive over there quickly. You wrote it as if the hardware stores across the border were your home.

So that’s how it looked two years ago. Still the same now? You haven’t been there for two years. How do you know today’s prices?

That contradicts itself and isn’t true. I know enough products from the East myself. I like to buy Sapeli doors (Czech Republic) for example – partially glazed, I’m currently at about 650€ including the frame, with GOOD quality.

I agree with you. Even though this naturally means that companies in the German border area cannot keep up. And the region accordingly has to undergo a structural change. It would be unfortunate if Poland, for some reason - its own construction boom, disaster consequences, etc. (we now know this ourselves) - were to impose an export ban. We have all learned from the pandemic how fragile global supply chains are.

Every Sunday used to be the case. I’m a native Pole. Meanwhile, only selected Sundays. 4-5 per year in number :-)
