Commuting cannot be an argument – unfortunately, in Germany the general public pays for it in the form of a flat rate. That’s precisely why we have the problem with the nonsensical commuting distances. Besides, those who really have to commute long distances now have an electric car or haven’t done the math yet. Selling the 2001 Fiesta and leasing a new, small electric car for 150 euros saves more per year than keeping the junker.
And where does the saving of 1800 euros come from, considering you have to pay leasing fees? The Fiesta is paid off, insurance and fuel costs shouldn’t amount to that, repairs can mostly still be done by yourself on the Fiesta.
