The comparison is absolutely correct even if you try to make it ridiculous here. A child will generate a CO2 footprint for the next 70-90 years, the diesel driver maybe only for another 10 years. Nobody wants to hear that. The diesel driver is bad, the parents are good? Well, all statements about CO2 emissions are then opinions since they mostly rely on assumptions and estimates. Depending on which data is evaluated and how, different results come out.

Only with the difference that there is a broad scientific consensus on the evaluation of the data. This turns an opinion into a scientifically determined fact. It remains valid as long as another opinion/theory has not refuted this fact and been accepted as a fact in the scientific community.

There is no such consensus in this form regarding the calculation of the CO2 emissions of individual countries or people. There are various scenarios that differ depending on assumptions.

The topic is off the table. Since 2011, fewer children have been born, not more.

Now we (after all, 197 countries) should work on adhering to the Paris Climate Agreement. And in doing so, we should mind our own business rather than pointing fingers at others. For two reasons: "The others" are very often better than we are. And if we don't make money with future-proof technologies, "the others" will.

So: Let's go!

I find these philosophical, social, economic, and ecological discussions highly interesting! Moreover, they take place here in the forum at a higher level than regularly in the pub / at the regulars' table. We do have such conversations in part at the breakfast table, but on it there are cold cuts/spreads in plastic packaging, the electric car plus motorhome with a smelly diesel (Fiat Ducato, just recently found out it has a 20-fold inflated value ...) are parked outside the door. Almost none of us makes sacrifices. Some of my favorite expressions: island of the blessed (by which I mean Europe), "money is just a number in the account," and "it's just nicely printed paper." With this I want to express: we can afford it, so we throw money at consumer goods we like to have but certainly do not necessarily need. If not everyone does it!, that is, really implements it and does not make excuses that as an individual you cannot change anything anyway, nothing will change! And yes, I am "up there" with it.

The growth rate of the world population is still in the positive range. What is your statement regarding 2011 referring to?
