How politically undesirable single-family houses are and to what extent the construction or purchase of such is made more difficult depends, among other things, on the power relations in the Bundestag and the ministries; these can change again. For me, it will be interesting to see whether the FFF youth, when they enter the family formation phase, will still categorically reject single-family houses (especially since some of them may have grown up in single-family houses themselves). The transformation of the '68ers into political "dignitaries" was also interesting to watch. :)

The single-family house will die out in the medium term solely because it costs significantly more and also requires much more energy than semi-detached or terraced houses. Exorbitant prices, high interest rates (currently 2.5% for 25 years), and expensive energy. Who can still afford that?

PS: 2.5% for 15 years, not 25.

Aren't terraced houses single-family homes? They are independent houses, just not ones with a 3m green strip all around. However, they should probably be treated the same in property tax?!

Yes, that's true. I meant detached single-family houses.

I see it a bit differently: the blanket statement may apply to urban areas, but not to smaller municipalities. They can build a few percent more multi-family houses (and do), but since jobs are not concentrated as much there, the structure of single-family houses lives on. .. here we go again: the horrendous interest rates of 2.5%/25 years :D … this is already becoming a running gag
