Construction costs are currently skyrocketing

Someone who signs a contract now has a 95% chance of no longer having a fixed price and instead price adjustment clauses... There is no way to defend against increases anymore... And I already know cases from friends/work circles where some providers offer five-figure sums if you would cancel the contract...

That's exactly the point. You can forget about starting prices. Especially on such portals, these are often some bait offers, where, miraculously, additional costs come on top that are not included in the price. Plus the mentioned price clauses and, last but not least, you don't know if the features are still the same compared to your contract. The construction specification may be somewhat stripped down there...

I also once started with the prices on the website of Danwood in my first "Why-aren't-we-building-anyway" consideration... oh man, was I naive! :D

I would say: No. But a feasible way would also be to part with (unnecessary) "luxury goods" and all the other stuff you accumulate? I could fill an entire house with junk, but I have only built about 60 m² for myself ;). You can manage with that too.

I have also wondered about this, but in the standard offer, for example, 1 year later there were plastic windows instead of aluminum windows. But it is a bit strange indeed. Some report horrendous construction costs/offers and other acquaintances supposedly build for half the price. Sometimes I don't understand that either.

Again, it’s a question of priorities. From minimalism to hoarding, there’s everything, just as individual as we humans are. Personally, I place myself somewhere in the middle. I don’t keep newspapers, but I do have a collecting hobby, and I think the construction should adapt to the lifestyle rather than the lifestyle to the construction. It’s supposed to bring joy; otherwise, you wouldn’t need to spend so much money.

The question is... do you lack living space or storage space? Misusing living space as storage is pretty expensive. Instead of enlarging the house’s footprint, you can also build upwards and plan a large attic as storage space. You only need the ski jackets roughly from Christmas to Easter. The need for shorts during that time is rather low. Most people only use the raclette grill at New Year’s Eve and the Christmas tree balls only 2 weeks a year. A lot of that can disappear up in the attic.
