In the end, the problem is also that no brake and no payment of money will provide oil, gas, pellets, electricity anymore. For this purpose, tens of billions of special "funds" are borrowed, which either have to be repaid or inflated away in the coming years. The former restricts future room for maneuver. The latter will drive us even deeper, because that assumes that inflation solidifies. Have fun with that.

I have to admit that I am not deeply versed in the subject of what exactly is capped, but in my opinion, no one in this forum should actually benefit. We cannot afford the watering can with the big bang permanently. Those who are in need must be urgently helped. The rest have no claim to full coverage. At least that's what I think.

Who do you consider needy? What are the effects on the economy if we, clearly not needy, save to pay our energy costs?

Energy must be saved, about 30% on gas, similar dimensions on electricity, so that we get through the winter well. "We" means end customers, but especially the energy-intensive industry. Because that is our backbone, where a large part of the money is earned. There is experience there, there are critical production lines.

And that affects everyone. Even in a KfW40 house, the heating should be turned down this winter and the lights turned off in the evening.

There is no crisis-proof job. If the industry shuts down and relocates, then we will no longer have money for all the conveniences we are used to. And many well-paid jobs that are crisis-proof depend on them. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, the entire public sector.

Needy, roughly speaking, is someone who can no longer afford the normal shopping basket due to the increased prices. No money for food, clothing, social participation. There should actually be a definition for that, which I honestly have not googled now. Surely, one can also argue about nuances. But Father State cannot offset every uncertainty and price increase. That is not sustainable and also has to be paid for. Of course, I gladly took the fuel discount and the energy money. But did I really need it? Actually not.
