Since we are already so extremely off topic anyway...

Have you already seen Seaspiracy?

Edit: Oops. With the last two posts we were back on topic. Well, then ignore my post.

Where we are back to the topic... Someone in our family is now starting to get quotes and their offer price is 10k lower than ours was last year with the same exterior dimensions and the same general contractor. Since both offers were/are for turnkey and the equipment is of course not exactly the same, no huge conclusions can be drawn from it now. But at least I can’t see a cost EXPLOSION. And they don’t get the Baukindergeld anymore now, so in that respect it will be 30k more expensive for them than it would have been last year.

When you read it like this, it makes you anxious. We are planning a house using timber frame construction with a wooden facade through architect tenders. We are currently in the work planning phase and actually wanted to send out the first tenders to the carpenters in June. I really wonder if that makes sense right now or if we should wait a bit longer. What do you think, how will the situation develop in the second half of the year? Will it normalize at some point or will it get worse?

It will normalize, but no one can estimate when. It could also take 2 years. Right now, it’s a disaster; since January, you can expect a 50% increase in wood prices.

Does not have to be. My carpenter has just sent the invoice for the second construction phase, which was completed last week. Only the spruce glued laminated timber is 4% more expensive than last year. Oak beams and larch boards are the same price.

That has other reasons. Especially the spruce glued laminated beams have risen sharply in price. Maybe he still had some in stock and can cut you some slack.
