Construction costs are currently skyrocketing

(say this after last Sunday at 1 a.m. I was sitting in the car crying loudly because Burger King was already closed and I couldn't get a vegan burger anymore, hypoglycemic and completely stressed out just wanting to get away)

But like with all the bad things - when there is something nice at the end (like our little house) people quickly forget all the bad stuff as well. So far, we've also had (almost) only luck with our craftsmen. Our building surveyor is also satisfied with our own work, as are those of the tradesmen. And when something new pops up again - today the electricians called to say that the empty conduit from the house connection to the house is probably broken and needs to be repaired - you just roll your eyes, but somehow a solution is always found.

At least so far. I take my hat off to everyone who does a lot themselves and I am also really proud of us.

This is (among other reasons) due to the fact that teachers are assigned after their traineeship to wherever the Free State wants them. They then receive the information "Administrative District Upper Bavaria" at the end of July, "District XY" in mid/end of August, and "School Z" at the end of August/beginning of September. The housing market in the south and the time pressure then lead to the situations you described.

That is (among other things) because teachers are assigned after their teacher training period to wherever the Free State wants them. They then receive the information "Regierungsbezirk Oberbayern" at the end of July, "Landkreis XY" in mid/late August, and "Schule Z" at the end of August/beginning of September. The housing market in the south and the lack of time lead to the situations you described.

Because of exactly this, people like to get married quickly shortly before the start of their teacher training so that they don’t face banishment to Bavarian Siberia (Fichtelgebirge Wunsiedel, Hof) or the expensive state capital :p That then gives social points and the desired location is much more likely to be granted.

Yes, I know, they often only find out about their placement one to two weeks beforehand. Of course, it’s almost impossible to find an apartment that quickly, but at least after some time. But in the cases described, there was nothing affordable for their salaries for a whole school year.
And that’s what I was getting at: Often the crazy prices in Munich are dismissed by saying that higher salaries are also paid there. That may be true in part, but not in others; elementary school teachers were just one example. An elementary school teacher in Munich does not earn much more than elsewhere. The same applies to many other professions as well.

Those times are sometimes over... despite being married, many first have to go at least 200 km away from home... children are more likely to be able to move there.
