Well-meaning and sensible advice. Unfortunately, it is of little use in our situation. I come from very simple circumstances, mother is a hairdresser, father was out for a long time due to illness, so he first has to catch up himself and build up savings for old age. My partner’s parents are also simple workers who first have to pay off their own place. As I said, every single cent saved and earned by ourselves. I also have friends in my circle who are simply going for it. Their dad is a lawyer or CEO. If it costs 50k € or more or it just takes 6 months longer, that’s not a big deal. That’s, of course, a different situation. Almost enviable. But I wish it for everyone.

To come back to your advice: The topic has already been openly discussed in our family. The general opinion is: cancel, look for a bigger rental apartment, be happy there, and in safer times, when the children are out of the worst, build or buy something.

Exactly that is simply our problem. And we just don’t know how to solve it. You have worked on your dream house for so long and now you are faced with a pile of broken pieces.

Sooner or later a decision has to be made ... The pressure to decide also adds to the situation.

We are also building with a [GU]. Our fixed price period is ending soon. [GU] does not intend to start building before this period, and we might soon face a price increase. Not sure by how much. The uncertainty of the whole situation is more troubling. So many variables that only a little here and there changes the entire calculation.

Now, in addition to the price increase, there is also a material shortage. That means longer construction time. So, welcome the provision fee.

In my opinion, you even overestimate the first one. But also the second one in my opinion. If a study (Forsa 2012 on behalf of Stern) shows that 21% of all 18-31 year olds cannot correctly classify the term Auschwitz, then I think that significantly less than even 50% of those over 18 can fully correctly classify the disputed quote. I myself only learned about it since my history studies; it was not taught to me in detail at school. I do not want to say that the usage is okay. But you can simply point it out before assuming the worst right away. My origin and belonging was only meant to illustrate that I do not belong to a typical clientele that relativizes. And that it is so unknown, I also do not find okay or normal, which is why I am responding here again. In my opinion, it is our responsibility not to forget and also not to let forget. Even if we are no longer guilty. But with admonishing and explanatory words, one often achieves more than with a verbal cudgel.

but is your financing secured? Maybe you should start your own thread for your project?
