I also understand the "problem" quite well. Our parents live about 1000km away, abroad. My children often ask me why they don’t have an "Oma-Opa Day," why Grandma can never pick them up from kindergarten, and why she rarely comes for their birthday... It is sometimes difficult for us too, managing all the family-work logistics when you are completely on your own.

Everyone is the architect of their own fortune. It was our decision to live here. Even though a 1m2 building plot here costs 320€ and in our home country over 30ar of building land is waiting for us. I wouldn’t want to return...

...and I explain to my children that not everyone can have a proper holiday with Grandma and Grandpa (without parents, of course ) and certainly not in another country ;).

Difficult question. I think probably not then. Or maybe we would have done something hybrid. Somehow look for something 50km away, but for that a small house instead of a 3-room apartment. Giving up living space would be relatively easy for me for the gain of the social component. Giving up a detached building in favor of an apartment I cannot imagine. I am too sensitive to noise for that; that would be too great a loss of quality of life.

So, I understand the center of life as the place where you earn your money. At 20, studying or vocational training; at 25, job and moving/change of residence/own shared apartment; at 30, finding a partner and possibly new job/location; at 35, family growth and stability in the job; then at 40, nest search or nest building after budget buildup.
And here you come and talk about “cheap areas,” pragmatic moving away etc. That’s a bit narrow-minded thinking from homeworkers :(

That saying is not the smartest either. The more specialized the training, the rarer the job market. If you’re a commercial employee or medical assistant, you don’t earn enough anyway. Besides, here the personal development has somewhat gone off track: you’re supposed to do one (or several) professions for 40 years that make you happy. Specialization often comes little by little. Promotion, happiness! You don’t say: “no, now career is over, otherwise I won’t get a job somewhere else later.”
If daily happiness works out, many also manage with the mentioned 75sqm in a nice city center environment. You arrange your life differently… maybe the inner values are somewhat more valuable  I’ll leave aside that many want to polish their personality with a house and a car.
I used to know many city dwellers from earlier (training) who had absolutely no ambition to own a house or live out in the sticks.
But you don’t read their opinions and views in a house building forum. However, it is not a minority.

Of course, we homeworkers have it easier here. But there are very, very many professions where you can easily find a job elsewhere too:
- Craftsmen
- Nurses
- Teachers
to name a few, which are present in large numbers. For me, it’s about not whining that as a nurse in the outskirts of, for example, Munich, you can’t build a house, but that if the wish to build a house is very big, you have to look for alternatives. And that also includes leaving familiar surroundings.

My wife and I, for example, moved to a prefabricated building in Beelitz after 9 months in a loft apartment in Berlin-Buckow. And not because we couldn’t afford the apartment, but because I wanted more time for the family. Previously, the commute was 2 hours each way. That’s why you have to prioritize your wishes and see what is possible...

Everyone has to decide for themselves how they shape their life. Nevertheless, I find your comment unproductive.

Could it be that the entire thread is slowly drifting off completely?

I would like to read something about the current prices and trends again.
