Autonomous driving together with the ordering of vehicles sounds great to me in principle. However, as long as it is not almost guaranteed that transport is basically always possible and also available at short notice, a large part of the people in rural areas will continue to have their own car as a backup.
You just have to think about commuting. If you don’t leave the office on time, you have to have a relatively quick way to get home. If the dog lingers too long in the morning, the same applies. Unfortunately, there are countless other examples that require a high degree of flexibility.
And since we already (in my opinion) sacrifice far too much of our lifetime for work and the way there, I don't think I am willing to sacrifice another 1-2 hours of my life for the way to/from work.

I can basically understand your argument. Nevertheless, carsharing is more sensible/better in terms of resources and utilization. But this can be extended to many other things/machines. Example: almost every household has its own cordless screwdriver, lawn mower, and other machines that lie unused 99% of the time. Personally, I would find it good if there were a rental station in our town where you could pick up and return tools 24/7.

If there were a car rental/carsharing in our town, we would immediately sell our family car and rather rely on that.

And what if you have to go to work and all vehicles are gone? This is great in the city and I would be the first to give up the car, but in the countryside that is simply almost impossible.
