Short version…Water is a poor storage medium, the amount of buffer is too small, and if you have to use it, you need to operate at very high temperatures. However, running at high temperatures is inefficient for heat pumps, and if you do, then you use the screed as storage, which has a multiple of the mass. Use the search function and search engines for the rest yourself.

There are also heating systems besides heat pumps in a new building where a buffer tank certainly makes sense.

And you can count heat pump specialists on one hand, except for the self-proclaimed ones.

What about an existing system with a solid fuel heating system where you might want to feed in the surplus from the already existing photovoltaic system?

I can basically understand your argument. Nevertheless, carsharing is more sensible/better in terms of resources and utilization. But this can be extended to many other things/machines. For example: almost every household has its own cordless screwdriver, lawnmower, and other machines that lie unused 99% of the time. Personally, I would find it good if there was a rental station in our town where you could pick up and return tools 24/7.

If there were a car rental/carsharing in our town, we would immediately sell our family car and rather rely on that.

And what if you have to go to work and all vehicles are gone? In the city, something like that is great and I would be the first to do without a car, but in the countryside, that is simply almost impossible.

To be honest: Car sharing does not work like the candy vending machine at the outdoor pool. There is a booking portal where you can book/reserve a vehicle in advance. You don’t just go there on a whim and check on site at the parking lot whether there is actually a car available. I assume that I can book a car several days in advance.

To answer your question: If no vehicle is available at my preferred time, then I have three options:

1. Book a car for an earlier time
2. Book a car for a later time
3. Work from home on that day
