That’s a bit weak now, isn’t it? It’s about authorities that are already in possession of the data not being allowed to enter it into a central register. Not about a doctor giving medical data to a bank. I am solely concerned about the state. But then you’re immediately in the Stasi / Olaf Scholz is spying on me discussion, which is completely ridiculous.

My wife also works "at the office." Sounds familiar.

Do you know how the time tracking works there? With a time card. And manual addition of break times. Once a month, all time cards are given to HR and someone manually enters all the times into an Excel sheet, which is then sent to payroll.

I laughed a lot when I found out about this. But it's not really that funny... :)

We actually use a more modern system with chip time tracking ;-)

Isn't that old? About 15 years ago, I had holiday jobs at the tax office (rearranging the archive ;) ) and they were already using chip stamping back then. By the way, I can only recommend it as a holiday job; the expectations for work performance are rather relaxed ;)

Ok, since we are currently off-topic, in my opinion, digitalization should look like this: every German citizen would have to have an online account with the tax office, to which employers automatically send all wage and income data, and other relevant tax data from banks, etc. would also have to be reported there. On this online account, one can then access all documents such as payslips at any time. Of course, the tax office or other authorities that need the information for something would also have access. This would make many things unnecessary (e.g., tax returns, printing payslips, ...) and simplify a lot. But I cannot imagine that I will experience this again.

With the electronic income tax card, this is already half a reality. I have not printed a payslip for years. Banks also deduct the withholding tax directly. If the tax system were simplified so that fewer expenses are specifically deductible (x cents per kilometer, per diem for business trips, new desk, etc.) and everything were regulated solely through flat rates, then a tax return would be unnecessary for most people.
