Wait and don't panic. Most of the time, time solves everything. Our general contractor informed us that we currently have to expect about a 2% price increase. But that is far from the 15%. Well, no one knows what it will look like in 6 months, but I assume the market will have adjusted to the demand by then.

It will be difficult if, for example, the USA's main importer Canada as a wood supplier almost completely fails. They are currently struggling with the beetles and recently had to destroy forest areas as large as Switzerland.

Then the American looks around in Europe and simply pays double the price. Win-win for the importer (finally gets his wood) and the EU exporter (gets more money). The local home builder gets the short end of the stick. The problem is worsened by demand from Asia.

I hardly believe that everything will be resolved again in 6 months. To be able to sufficiently meet the demand again, it certainly requires more than half a year lead time.

Was at my timber supplier this week, he said they had increases in purchasing costs of up to 600% and even then it was difficult to get goods. They no longer sell to private customers, only to commercial and regular customers.

Our stair builder says he doesn’t notice anything yet, as it is more about structural solid wood rather than joinery wood. However, he is already preparing our stairs in such a way that we won’t be affected by upcoming price increases.

Our contract for the house still has a fixed price until December 2021. We should manage that, as the house will probably be erected in November. As a [Ausbauhaus], we also get all materials for the interior construction (structural solid wood, insulation, drywall sheets, etc.) from them (if there is still material available then :D). The architect was still quite relaxed and said everything will be fine.

Still, all this stresses me quite a bit, as I am not a very relaxed person. I still hope everything will go well.

They shouldn't make such a fuss, everyone gets a fat KfW subsidy, which can already offset price increases of 20k...
