At the beginning of September, apples from New Zealand at Edeka are cheaper than the apples from the local supplier just a few kilometers away.
In case you didn’t know yet: apples have a natural "expiration date" and are seasonal fruit. This expiration date is artificially extended through elaborate cooling. Since the German apples have already been cooled for several months, they are consequently more expensive than the imports. I think (not sure) that from March onwards the CO2 footprint of local and imported apples is the same.
Before complaining, one can simply inquire about the reasons.
