Age is not a measure of resistance to progress, that is a prejudice. I know enough young, staunchly conservative people and enough older, very open-minded ones. And that skin color is a measure for much more than just sunburn risk, can hardly be said either. PS: I know you mean THE "old, white man" but I can't stand such stereotypes anyway.

I think that Nordlys, in his post, illustrates this stereotype more than clearly. It is sad that there is even a stereotype for this narrow-mindedness. PS: Regarding age and skin color, I of course agree with you one hundred percent, and not all old white men should feel addressed by this.

I am a self-proclaimed country bumpkin. We had a Passat GTE for a few months. The calculated 64 km electric range was sufficient for most trips in winter, sometimes minus 15 to minus 20 degrees. If the new normal after Corona remains, there will certainly be a purely electric vehicle. For 2 people, the range is not sufficient yet; it would require driving 1,000 km per day without much effort. Then possibly a hybrid. I find driving electric pleasant.

"City dwellers from well-off academic circles," they don’t even have overalls like us :rolleyes: and this comes from someone who lets himself be supported by taxpayers with a fat pension and who bungled around in the administration beforehand. What really bothers you is that no one wants to hear your wisdom anymore because you live in the world of yesterday. You have no idea about the world we live in because you narrow-mindedly hide in your new-build shed in the countryside without having the intellectual access to current knowledge. You can’t bear the fact that you’re left behind and so you just badmouth the young, well-educated people who are far ahead of you in many ways. Hoping to come off better that way. The opposite is actually the case.

If someone sees it as an attack on their personality and freedom to no longer be allowed/should call a schnitzel "Zigeunerschnitzel," then in my eyes any discussion is unnecessary. That is so outrageous and, in my opinion, also pointless, pure waste of time and energy. I believe that fears and insecurities lie in the background here that could never be cleared up by any discussion, no matter how factually conducted. Not to mention who verbally attacked whom first (evil academics!).
That the AfD is grateful for the type "old, white man" is clear – but the blame certainly does not lie in not having tried factual communication.

What is the alternative to discussion?

Everyone lives in their bubble of self-affirmation through like-minded people. "The others" just don't want to understand. One doesn’t even listen to other viewpoints anymore. That is comfortable. And narrow-minded.

In a fair discussion, I must at least consider that the other person might be right. At least that not every one of their arguments is nonsense.

Read Aero's post again carefully and see if a statement was attacked, or if Nordly was attacked quite directly and personally.
