That’s why KfW promotional loans are only really sensible for existing buildings and, for all I care, with income limits. They can even be issued at zero interest. I would argue that there would still be some savings left for Grandma and Grandpa.

And every time I read this, I find it sad again that your father can't replace his PC for half a year. Mine would have had a new one from me after a week.

My first impulse was to agree, but who knows, maybe his father regularly disciplined him with the belt...

Or the father does not want to accept anything at all. I can totally understand if old people no longer want to tear up floors and walls. That is all a lot of stress, a lot of dirt, a lot of effort, costs an incredible amount of money. In old age, I could imagine better things too. The topic of credit at an old age or worry about whether the savings will last until death adds on top. I think as a young person one should not judge hastily.

Yes, that is why we as a society must make it as easy as possible for them (within reasonable limits) to carry out the necessary changes after all.

But how is that supposed to work? The financial aspect is only one part.
The other is the burden that many older people simply can no longer bear.
And in addition, some are no longer capable of organizing the whole thing, finding craftsmen, comparing prices, etc.
