The value of the house only becomes an asset once it is paid off. For most of us, a loan is eventually used for construction. One no longer needs to hold on to the term "millionaire," that was something special back in the '60s that still resonates in the expression. At the same time, please do not forget: the vast majority of us are - millionaire or not - exceptionally privileged.

If you like moving frequently, of course you can also live well in a rental. But we are in the house building forum, so that is probably not up for debate :p

I have been in Berlin, Augsburg, Edinburgh, Wolfsburg. I feel as comfortable here as nowhere else, maybe also in Beauly (near Inverness). I am not confined, I am finally at home. I have work that I enjoy, friends, everything is there. If I can no longer live in my house, I just move up the mountain.

Funny the world is a village. In Beauly, during my Scotland holiday, I always got my dinner from the Chinese Takeaway. Really nice little town

Really? I've already picked up there too. The world is a village

Were you at the marketplace on Thursday evenings? The barrier that makes every German public order office break into a sweat.

I like the people there. No idea why.

Yes, it is. Even beautiful. Unfortunately, the unemployment rate in the Harz is quite high. But if you can work from home, you can still buy/build cheaply in the Harz. The big advantage of Goslar was that you have a small town where you don't have to drive anywhere else to shop. You have everything on site. Unfortunately, that doesn't exist in Brandenburg. Either you have big and expensive cities like Potsdam or villages with a few supermarkets.
