It’s not about the countryside. It’s about the countryside in connection with the price. We couldn’t afford it. We are currently building a bungalow on about 1,500 sqm of land in a forest community. 50 km from Berlin, 25 km from Potsdam. Price for upscale house standard + land 600k. At €910 / sqm the price would triple...

In our community at a similar distance from Munich, nothing three-digit per square meter for building land is possible anymore.

However, in the small villages around without any infrastructure, you can still get something significantly cheaper. At least according to the [Bodenrichtwert]...

Standard land value means nothing. Here it is 100 € / sqm. It is being sold for 300-400 € / sqm.

Oops sorry I actually misunderstood that, by now one (in this case me) has the feeling that "rural areas" are often demonized and considered inferior because not everything is right on the doorstep.

Baden-Württemberg no longer designates any building areas. Thanks to a Green state government, no development plans are being created either. Residential building land is drastically scarce. Nationwide. And then people wonder why construction prices are exploding.

For the still available existing plots, naturally prices are being demanded that only very few want or can pay. And you have to make decisions. You can go where there is cheap building land, but then worse jobs. Long commutes also make little sense. You shouldn't spend half your life on the highway.

Good jobs are everywhere. You just need a bit of courage. But that's always the case in life. The best years also pass quickly and you can't chase a dream forever.

The reality, however, is that especially southern Germany, Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Rheinhessen, and many other regions are overpopulated. It starts with schools, daycares, etc. Everything is full. There is everything, but everything is unbearably crowded. Every evening, it takes hours of traffic jam for just a few kilometers. Where can you still find peace?

I didn't want to live like that anymore. I also moved to the countryside. At first with reservations, now all the happier. As I said, the baker stops at my door every day, the butcher comes twice a week, and the doctor too. The rest goes online and if not, I'm in the big city within half an hour.

To live well and happily, we need about 1000 euros a month. I have no mortgage on our house. I don't have any other costs either. Of course, we have an income of significantly more. But I don't need it.
