Sorry for continuing with OT here, but in my opinion, it cannot be the solution that average earners are “forced” to move to other federal states. I originally come from one of the most popular holiday regions in Europe, and there are areas where locals, if they want to leave their parental home, usually have to move away unless they have inherited something, because only some celebrities or other very rich people can afford to buy something there. It somehow ruins a place when the young population has to move away and half of the houses remain empty most of the year. Of course, this is an extreme example, but even here in Germany there are definitely areas where building plots from the city/municipality are very difficult to afford for the middle class (and, as one user already described using the example of FFM, there are hardly any affordable 4- or 5-room apartments available). This naturally leads to some families preferring to move away. But it also leads to, for example, a shortage of teachers in Munich because young Munich residents tend to be interested in professions that allow them to afford life in the city.
