If the house is less than two years old, you probably still have residual moisture in the construction. In our office building, after two years the humidity in winter dropped to 20-30%, which means we have to set up humidifiers in winter. Since then, the wooden staircase has developed nice cracks.

A lot of wood helps, of course, to keep the indoor climate pleasant. Our office building is a solid construction/concrete structure. Only the stairs, the frames of the interior doors, and the window frames are made of wood.
