We feel the same. As soon as I know more, I will provide the answer for you.

That’s great! We also saved about €30,000 with own labor back then. It could have been another €20,000 more, but that wouldn’t have been possible health-wise. And whether you pay back €400k or €420k somehow doesn't matter.

Often simply comparing offers and good planning helps. We had garden builder offers across the board around €80,000. Then found one for €50,000 who did very good work with only a few defects. I calculated it, DIY would also have cost about €50,000. For us, the decision was clear. I would never have done it myself for that money.

Especially since we can use the garden immediately and otherwise would have been working on it ourselves for 2 years. It’s still far from finished anyway, there’s still plenty to do ourselves.

We are gut-renovating our house with 70% DIY work. Our little house is also over 200 years old and allows that. And it also forbids us many things - which certainly saves money. We don’t even have to think about 36 sqm of lift-and-slide doors or 4 sqm kitchen islands. :D There’s nothing representative about that. Instead, we invest our money in room-length solid wood planks. Building a house yourself today is not comparable to the 1980s. Electrical systems, heating systems, insulation layers, material seams - today it is much more complex than 40 years ago. Despite YouTube videos. And even 40 years ago, people did not all build themselves. The difference is perhaps that people did not have such extreme demands on "aesthetics" and fittings. The only source of inspiration was "Schöner Wohnen" and the average building couple generally did not consult it. The kitchen came from the local furniture store, as did the furniture or it was inherited. Garden furniture was not lounge furniture either and the builder did not dream of the 5,000 euro Napoleon grill. Only millionaires had a pool at most. Today pools seem to be the new garden pond.

It's not worth it at all with 10 months of permafrost per year...

Hey, exactly what you say there. Today again 8 degrees and rain. It's ... well, it's good for nature, I've never had such a dense weed-free lawn :)

Ah, that would be kind, thank you! I will do the same as soon as our negotiation has taken place. But it will definitely still take a while, since the building permit is still not here, crazy what’s going on right now with all the different deadlines.
