That usually, when the original owners have passed away, the airport was there first? ;-)

I recently talked to a couple who moved up here. They bought a house right by the Schleibrücke. We just said that it would probably be too loud or too hectic for us in the summer because of the traffic. She just laughed and told us that they had previously lived in the flight path of Frankfurt/Main....here it is now like paradise for them.

When were places in Germany ever visited by marauding, starving, freezing, and completely impoverished people? Was it during the First World War when about 800,000 Germans starved to death? Or in the famine winter of 1946/1947?
When were "wealthy" people plundered and beaten to death en masse?
With the communists/socialists, you can certainly find a few good examples.

I can agree with you on many things, but I think aesthetics is an important aspect. The damage caused by ugliness in the surroundings and in people’s (also residential) environment, to the affected persons, is enormously underestimated in my opinion. I think it is wrong if we are supposed to put up with more and more ugliness (in almost every respect, but that is not the topic here), because ugliness, from my point of view, has an enormous influence on the human psyche and can affect the behavior, attitudes, values, etc. of people. For me, among other things, wind turbines in natural landscapes are (unfortunately) always a sign of an approaching dystopia; I cannot associate them positively. I also cannot only see the events in the Ahr valley from a human perspective and only negatively; sometimes nature just takes back a piece of what we have taken from it. We know that and can prepare or live elsewhere. People were also relocated in mining areas, so why not in flood-prone areas? There are tree species (not here in Germany) that need regular forest fires for their seed capsules to open, and much more...

From my point of view, one of the problems is that too few people study or train in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, etc., but prefer "something with media." ;-) We could develop and offer better solutions if more people made an effort for better technical solutions.

Difficult, the matter with morality... in Qatar stoning is permitted. I don’t know what I find worse, especially since the victims of stoning are absolutely defenseless.

New word learned, thanks for that. :)

Can people on the electric chair or at the lethal injection defend themselves? That is precisely the point of the death penalty that the "victim" cannot defend themselves.
