Hello,

What is your definition of lifespan? Before the roof tiles (whether concrete or clay) crumble, you will probably have been 2 meters lower for a very long time already.

In the past, concrete tiles usually got dirty faster because the surface is rougher. Today, there are coatings for concrete roof tiles as well, so supposedly there is no big difference anymore.

We use the Frankfurter Pfanne from Braas with Protegon coating. Was that the right choice? Ask me again in 20 years.

Best regards,

Andreas

In any case, a wise decision

Hi construction expert,

I am glad about this assessment, but why? Did we score a hit through ignorance? When choosing the samples, we simply followed the advice of the sampling person. He said that the Protegon roof tiles would hardly get dirty and with our 25-degree roof pitch, no one would see the difference anyway.

Many greetings,

Andreas

Hello Andreas,

Of course, I don’t know that

Before the new coating became more or less standard in the Braas® house, we always offered double-coated roof tiles; for a normal roof it cost about €300 more than standard. The double coating ensures that roofs are more resistant to dirt for longer. They are, if I compare "our" houses with the surrounding buildings where this design method was omitted.

Now with Protegon there is no extra charge (provided Braas® is used), although it is already taken into account in the sales price by the manufacturer. I am quite sure that the properties are comparable; at least the first houses covered with this material suggest that.

Interesting professional attitude

Hi construction expert,

yes, as mentioned, the Braas roof tiles are being used (is it actually called -tiles or bricks?). Our general contractor has set up a roof area with the different options in his sampling center. And to be honest, we didn’t see any difference between the concrete and clay tiles that would have been worth the extra cost (which wasn’t much at all: about €1000).

The sampling person told us right at the greeting that he doesn’t receive any commissions and has a fixed salary only. So he couldn’t care less how much money we spend with him!

Best regards,

Andreas

Well then, I am curious. With our roof tiles from Nelskamp, it says "longlife matt," but it seems similar to the Protegon coating from Braas.

Very fair!!
