Although no one seriously does that with a home fireplace. The problem is the same as it was with cars back then: filters cost money and don’t last forever. Besides, a filter can have unwanted side effects that then have to be compensated for in other ways. The engineers of course know that beforehand, but no one listens. And afterwards everyone acts all surprised...keyword nitrogen oxides.

How can I imagine that? How, when, and how often does such an inspection take place?

Am I allowed to give the chimney sweep a hint if our neighbor once again grabs into the pile with fresh wood and makes everything stink, smoke up, and makes ventilation impossible for us?

So far, I have only been at home once myself, because usually I am already at the office when the chimney sweep comes. He simply took a few logs from the wood box in front of the stove and measured the moisture with a measuring device.

So within the scope of the annual? chimney inspection or whatever it's exactly called? Learned something new again. Thanks

Our chimney sweep said you can see what people throw into the stove when cleaning the chimney. Anything that is not dry and firewood causes residue in the chimney.

Yes, exactly, once a year he has the storage area shown to him and checks a few logs with the measuring device. In our case, he doesn't take the wood that's inside the room, but outside from the storage area. If the neighbor burns too fresh wood, I would first go to her and explain that fresh wood has a much lower calorific value and that she is not doing herself any favors because it is ineffective to burn fresh wood. If that doesn't help, I would notify the chimney sweep. If necessary, he can prohibit the operation of her stove.
