And politicians who do the job full-time and have no secondary jobs or additional income.
And by that I mean all professional politicians. In our village of 5,500 inhabitants, the mayor is automatically chairman of the following committees by virtue of office:
- Savings bank board of directors
- Supervisory board of the housing cooperative
- School association
- Various foundations
The position at the savings bank alone is compensated with 4,000 euros per year...
If he wants to get involved, then please on a voluntary basis.
Because I am getting so worked up right now, here is an example from local politics on the subject of conservative parties:
Four years ago, a provider offered to rebuild the existing daycare center because the old building is an energy disaster, and to simultaneously expand it and build an after-school care facility. Decision of the majority conservative city council with mostly elderly members: rejected, we don’t need it, we have never needed that before. Official reason: A survey by the mayor and the parties found that there is no demand for childcare in the town – besides, with the larger option, the municipal subsidy for this outsourced municipal mandatory task would also be significantly higher. And the money can be saved. After all, it’s only about children and families.
Current status: the available care places in the new building are insufficient, first parents are legally claiming their entitlement. The mayor begged the provider not to demolish the old daycare yet and to set up a temporary emergency care group there and, in the medium term, an after-school care facility.
With a gender quota and/or modern parties/people in the city council, a different decision would certainly have been made here.
