The nowadays so hated tiny kitchens in old buildings are the result of planning for eternity in advance. I'm curious how people will think about the kitchen island with lacquer cabinet wall in the living room in 20 years.

The kitchen salesperson is like a house salesperson, a quick deal without much effort. He doesn’t design a kitchen for you, but quickly plans kitchen elements in. The questions of ergonomics, such as working heights, short walking distances, number of users and workstations, are ignored. In the same time, he plans 3 kitchens, with corner cabinets, pull-out cabinets and the like, fast and expensive.

There are undoubtedly such kitchen planners. But in a world where there is also competition in the industry, I don't think you can say that across the board for everyone. I am sure that there are good & dedicated people among the planners in kitchen studios, and less good ones.

Off topic: Really great that you wisely canceled your other project. I'm sure many others here in the forum are also happy that you now have more time for "us." :)

I wouldn't go quite that far. But of course, you should consider where you want what. U-shape, peninsula or island. Cooking/washing at the window or against the wall. I think we timed it pretty well that we finalized the kitchen during the shell construction phase. I find it's quite different whether you look at a plan or actually stand inside it. And as long as the bricklayers are there, if in doubt, something can still be changed.

I absolutely cannot confirm that. Our kitchen planner did pay attention to things like working height, and because we are both somewhat taller than average, our countertop is a bit higher. She also took a lot of time, and we are 100% satisfied. But I can also imagine that there are certainly other examples. Our main contractor also wanted to have the kitchen plan beforehand before going into the final planning, since the connections have to be taken into account. Honestly, I wouldn't have thought there are contractors who don't care about that. But I guess I’m too naive and can consider myself lucky that we got one who thought of everything.
