What should access to schools then cost? And what would be an appropriate fee per kilometer for you when driving on the highway?

It is up to the federal states whether they subsidize childcare. In Hesse, for example, 6 hours per day are covered for children from 3 years old. How much parents ultimately pay depends on the municipalities. The childcare sector incurs significant deficits every year, which have to be compensated elsewhere because it is simply not possible to charge fees high enough to cover costs. Otherwise, many families would be completely excluded.
Greetings from the Youth and Family Department of a municipal administration

It only gets really funny in elementary school when you receive the bill for after-school care fees, if you're lucky enough to get a place at the after-school program. I had to reduce my hours from 80% to 50% because the children come home from elementary school at the latest at 1 p.m., if not even earlier due to cancellations. We only have the right to afternoon care once the children reach middle school. Thanks for nothing CSU.

You can be fundamentally against something but still take advantage of it personally. I would prefer if some forced benefits were omitted, then you could also save on subsidies with the money saved. And yes, I still received the 40+, but whether that is really the most sensible use of over 40,000€ for the general public, I strongly doubt.

And no, education should not fundamentally be free, because it is not. Tuition fees are a great example. A degree takes 6-10 semesters if you stay within the standard period of study (which is basically possible). With 500€ tuition fees per semester, we're talking about 3,000-5,000€. If my own education is not worth those few euros to me, why should the general public then pay for it? The state still has the possibility to catch social extremes and should do so. We as a population should be honest enough to allow ourselves a discussion about fair prices instead of categorically excluding it. But in Germany, we manage the feat of wanting everything "for free" from the state and at the same time complaining about the high taxes and that they are often not used effectively. The two points are connected.

Childcare does not have to be free. What must not happen is that free facilities offer additional services that cost extra. Friends of mine from Berlin told me this. In their facility, there is free care plus chargeable additional services that can be taken. Personally, I find that terrible. However, I don’t know if that is normal or if it is for those who think foreign language, dance, and music must be additionally promoted. Through the co-payment, the facilities still have opportunities to cover individual costs. A rural kindergarten cannot be compared to a facility in a big city. I prefer to pay the few euros and am satisfied with the care and the offer.

In Bavaria, there is family allowance for the first 36 months. That is 300 euros per month to support families. No matter whether this stretches the parental allowance to 24 months or covers the care costs.
In addition, there is a subsidy of 100 euros per month from the 1st year of life until school enrollment.
Thus, the following co-payments are still due for us. Full time from 7:00 to 16:30
Crèche under 3 years 80 euros
Kindergarten from 3 years 55 euros
After-school care 95 euros from school end until 16:30 or Easter holidays, Pentecost, 3 weeks summer holidays and autumn holidays from 7:00 to 16:30
Discounts for siblings and low-income families are provided through the municipality. I do not know how much.

don’t complain about the CSU, complain about your municipal administration. We do not have a shortage of crèche, kindergarten, and after-school care places. If the municipality wants to build and can pay its share, the Free State subsidizes accordingly.
No idea how often the demand has been surveyed in recent years, how many millions have gone into the 2 primary schools, the secondary school, the 7 crèches, 7 kindergartens, and 7 after-school care centers. There is always extension, renovation, and refurbishment. Just in our village, first the secondary school, then the after-school care center, and in autumn or next year the kindergarten is next; in between, last year there was the new outdoor facility for 100k. In the neighboring village, an after-school care center with 100 places is currently being built.

Since I am currently cooking lunch for my family, I will respond and read afterwards.

For all opponents of free education and daycare. Let's make the streets chargeable. GO!
