Well, that's a bit oversimplified. From the perspective of someone who has now lived 12 years away from home (studies, then job in the area of the university, and so on) – I feel pulled back home again. Enough to take on many organizational hurdles to make it happen. Of course, family is not equally important to everyone, and some may even be estranged. But I like to think that the majority of people at least have a reasonably good relationship with their family. For us, the main trigger for relocation is really the possibility to be spontaneously involved in family matters again. Birthdays, holidays, just Sunday coffee or an outing with grandma. Families with children will probably understand what it means to see grandma only once a year. Our view on this distance has changed extremely, especially with a child.
