Well, that's of course a matter of attitude. We are very happy to have the option in our well-insulated old building to implement this quickly and relatively inexpensively. Because heat pumps are hard to get and even harder to install, plus modifications are necessary here. And even though we had taken care of it since spring, it won't happen for us this winter, whereas we do have the two-flue large chimney and not much has to be done there. I wouldn't want to heat exclusively with wood forever, but for this winter it's a good thing and later on it's simply a small luxury to cozy up in the evenings with the fireplace warm.

But you can also look at it positively. Wood provides warmth three times, gas only once ;)
And the wood piles are also great for hiding from the neighbors. Wood sheds are also a great playground for children, especially because they are strictly forbidden (I speak from experience...)

And besides, you poison your family and neighbors with the fine dust and harm the climate with the released CO2. Great stuff..

Fortunately, no CO2 and no fine dust are produced during the combustion of fossil materials ;)

And don't worry, after having to help with chopping wood often in my childhood, the fireplace was one of the things I refused to have in my house. I do like making fire, but wood is personally too much work for me.

Hm yes, it is not ideal environmentally, but gas is of course not either. I can't change anything about it if you can't get materials and especially no craftsmen. We do a lot ourselves, but heat pump+photovoltaics plus the necessary conversion work then does exceed our abilities a bit :p. And whether we could afford it is also another matter, that adds to it. It's not done with €5,000 either .
