We took almost everything for the plumbing from the standard selection in 2020, and I find our bathroom beautiful; I lack nothing.
But of course, it's a matter of priority, and I also respect people who want more if they can afford it.
We set individual accents with the oak wood washbasins with vessel sinks. They were relatively inexpensive as well. The components weren't expensive, and the Ikea drawer cabinets are really great for the price-performance ratio. However, it was a hassle to find someone who wanted to install it (you might remember). For most people who are a bit more skilled than us, it shouldn't be a problem to connect a washbasin themselves. :)

Nowhere, because you would have to disclose your address, personal details, walking distance to the nearest bakery, etc. ;-)

For fittings, porcelain, tiles. Everything purchased at the end of 2020. Lights, mirrors, cupboard are antiques and flea market finds. Tiles are a cheap mosaic, or a clearance stock of subway tiles. I rather wash myself in a zinc bucket than spend >1000 on a painted MDF drawer cabinet.

Yes, I also had to make the mistake with the sanitary exhibition. I hope this business model dies out. Therefore, I recommend the "sanitary exhibition" on the internet. Then you already get a feeling for the prices, even if the plumber adds a hefty markup later. But at least this way you avoid accidentally choosing the €4000 mirror cabinet and expecting Ikea prices.

We did something very similar after no prices were mentioned in the sanitary exhibition and the offer from the GHW plumber based on that only came weeks later. After we recovered from the offer and the blind guessing game, and since we didn’t feel like going through more rounds, I first inquired by phone which brands they carry in the sanitary exhibition. Then I activated a price filter for these brands on Reuters online (flat 100% later markup for the GHW included) and looked at what else we liked. Then we looked at the models again live in the sanitary exhibition—but they didn’t have most of them on site either... Then I sent the exact item numbers to the GHW and asked for a new offer. We left out the sinks and base cabinet because we could install those ourselves at a four-figure discount. We only downloaded the assembly instructions from the internet and sent them to the drywall installer in advance so he could provide reinforcements accordingly in the wall structure. There is a reason why these sanitary exhibitors often present their offers in small palaces...
