Grandma always said, with one child you need a few chickens for the leftovers, with 2 children a pig.

You don’t seriously believe that with years of preparation in prepper style you would survive even one day longer than others in a real "emergency" if the mob or the tank brigade is standing at your door to borrow wood or lentils. Surely you have also prepared for that. But how long can you barricade yourself?

Why should an older person give up their property? When do you consider "in time"? And what does "run down" mean? For some here, a house seems to be just a shell that can be changed at will. But there are certainly people who are attached to what they have partly created themselves. Especially since the people who are old now have, for the most part, contributed much more personal effort. There are memories attached, one feels comfortable there. Why should one give that up?

Absolute agreement! But the point is to make it more attractive for older people to sell the 200 sqm house and dedicate themselves to an attractive alternative that may also make daily life easier. I know this from our village as well: the (mostly huge houses) are occupied by singles or couples aged 85+. That is already a problem for the market. But logically, no one has the right to demand that people give up their house, which, as you rightly say, was partly created with their own hands. But how do you get them to take this step voluntarily and with conviction? Difficult ...

How important self-sufficient supply can be is evident these days.

Since, apart from my rental income, I will receive a rather modest pension, I have naturally focused everything on being financially independent in a few years. I cannot rely on the rental income and a carefree life in old age. Just as little as on the pension. Maybe in 5 years I will have to pay 10,000 euros in property tax for my house like in the USA.

Or there will be a burden equalization with a government compulsory mortgage on real estate. Nobody can rule that out anymore.

Therefore, I prefer to remain independent. If you do not have to draw electricity, have no heating costs, and also have water for free, then much has already been gained. And let’s wait and see how food prices develop.

At a price of 50 € for a kilo of pork, 10 euros for a loaf of bread, and 20 euros for a pack of eggs, it will become unaffordable even for the middle class. Or does anyone here believe that wages will be adjusted for inflation? That will not happen.

Since in the future we want to voluntarily do without Russian hard coal, these scenarios could come faster than expected. In its sanction frenzy, the EU is ruining Germany as an economic location. The reserves will last another 4 weeks. Until then, rationing will already begin. I don’t even know how stupid one can be. But please, those who don’t want to, already have.

Germany has only very small coal reserves
In 2020, Germany consumed about 31 million tons of hard coal. Half of this amount was used for energy production, the other half goes to industry, for example in steel production. To cover the total demand, Germany imports around 14.5 tons of hard coal from Russia, about 50 percent of the total consumption per year, according to the report from the Ministry of Economic Affairs that Business Insider has. In the power plant sector, the share of Russian coal is even higher.
