Wind turbines used to be subsidized. And yes, they are relatively loud, at least the old ones, but 1 km is exaggerated.

Oh yes, if we simply "only" replaced the existing wind turbines with the latest version each time, much would be gained.

On the topic of volume, I can only say that a few years ago we went hiking in the Black Forest and stayed overnight on the Hornisgrinde (without a tent, just the sleeping mat on the ground). When we arrived, there was no wind, but at night a thunderstorm came and you could hear the turbines very loudly. I wouldn’t want that continuously. I just measured it, we are talking about over 600m for a 120m wind turbine, so >5H. No one who has to live there themselves would want to move it to 2H near residential buildings.

And what are they supposed to say within a radius of 20 km around the airports and approach paths (F/S/B…)?

I just say Ikea Berlin-Waltersdorf. There you can practically board the plane while it’s flying

Well, my parents live 500 meters as the crow flies from such a 200-meter-tall thing (it was built before the regulations with greater distances existed). I have often walked right past it, and yes, these things are not quiet, but they are not THAT loud either. At my parents' place, you absolutely don’t hear anything from it. They are also protected by a few houses, but even if you go to the closest one... yes, you hear a faint background noise... and then the highway nearby is 1000 times louder (despite a noise protection wall). At my parents’ place itself, the country road in front of the door is even louder (and above all, noticeably more irregularly loud than both the wind turbine and the highway). That is probably also the main point. It is, of course, always annoying when new burdens arise that didn’t exist before. Nevertheless, the legal regulations and resistance in this area are sometimes disproportionately large, especially when you compare them with other regulations. Otherwise, before the construction, we really witnessed absurd discussions ("that spoils the landscape" and "then you drive around the curve on the country road and get scared by the monster! That greatly increases the risk of accidents!!" - I’m not joking).

At another wind power plant nearby, through friends, we heard about serious problems with shadow flicker (they were sometimes in the shadow flicker of the rotor blades). That can be really annoying and stressful in some cases, but even there they ultimately found a solution to minimize it (it is aligned differently at certain times, reducing the shadow flicker disturbance on the houses).

What I find difficult sometimes are the devaluations that arise for the next-door neighbors. If I had just built a costly new house and then a wind turbine was put right in front of my door, I would probably be pissed off at first, too. The argument "then just move somewhere else if it bothers you" is not always necessarily easy.

Otherwise, my parents really hit the lottery regarding infrastructure construction nearby ;) A railway line exactly through their house is also under discussion (even if alternatives are now being discussed, it’s just not proportional when for a few minutes of time savings a completely new route is drawn through the landscape for many many kilometers). That’s probably the problem when you live a bit outside the village in a less populated area....
