Yes, one child. And I myself grew up sharing a room with my sister. It was only around the age of 16 that I got my own room. My sister was 12 at the time. When we came to Germany (1990), the four of us lived in one room for a year. Nevertheless, we lacked nothing.

I consider that a romanticization of the past. People definitely lack something when they have no private space to retreat to. Children are also people with needs, and at some point, a room shared by four is too cramped for them too.

I am only talking about my experiences from another country where it is normal to live four people in 50 sqm. I am not talking about leaving anyone behind, I am talking about reality. If I don't have money for a Mercedes, then I have to drive a Dacia. By the way, we moved from an 80 sqm newly built area in Berlin (underfloor heating, underground parking, many parks, wealthy people in the vicinity) to a 70 sqm panel building because a) it only cost half and b) I had a much shorter commute. I did not stand in front of a single-family house and protest because I felt left behind. If a loss of 10-20 sqm living space leads to demonstrations, then Germany really has no problems...

Not at that time. We did a lot, had a car (which was already more than a luxury). We come from different backgrounds, so it was not a shock for us.

I’ll give you another example. It’s like with smartphones nowadays. In the past, you could do without them, now even an 8-year-old child has to have one... In the past, football was my best friend. It’s largely a matter of upbringing. Our daughter is also very spoiled and we are not a good example when it comes to parenting. But it definitely can be done differently.

Expenses? In Poland it is normal and I don’t know any statistic that reveals a higher youth suicide rate in Poland. Here in Germany it has just become the norm. If you can afford it, OK. What if that is not the case?

So I didn’t have my own room until I was about 17, even though I grew up in a single-family house. Most of the time I enjoyed sharing the room with one of my sisters (first the older one, later the younger one). But it really depends on the circumstances... e.g. age gap, gender, room size (in our case over 20 square meters).
