I believe they simply have the cheap image. They are not more expensive than bricks. And you save on the substructure since they are lighter.

I can confirm that, it was actually a tough image battle until we convinced roofers and construction supervisors about metal sheets. The arguments were always "It is loud and gets hot." It was probably the same 30 years ago. But we also see no disadvantage in correct! planning.

For the next house, I ask: How do you properly plan a metal roof? How do you prevent it from getting too hot? Probably too loud, stick [Antibrummmatten] underneath. How do you prevent the mounting anchors of the photovoltaic system from making the roof leaky?

I don’t know. I just suspect: The roof itself is also screwed (with those self-sealing screws with rubber nipples). Therefore, I suspect that you can do it the same way with fastenings on the roof. I can climb onto my grandma’s roof (she has a classic warehouse with photovoltaics on it) and see how it was done... It has been watertight without an underlay for about 16 years so far.

With trapezoidal sheet metal, you do not drill into the roof substructure, but instead screw directly into the trapezoidal sheet metal, more precisely into the raised rib (where no water can accumulate!), and you use roofing screws that seal the drill hole directly below the screw head with a rubber ring.

We have a shed roof with trapezoidal sheet metal (with anti-condensation fleece on the underside), which is neither too loud nor too warm under the roof. I have uploaded the plan for you:
