I see it 100% the opposite.

If we want neither electricity from nuclear, coal, nor gas, where does the electricity come from? Wind power? No, the expansion is currently being significantly scaled back by the federal government. The sun doesn't shine in winter.

I am not a fan of fossil fuels, but unfortunately, it is the right choice for the wallet.

Maybe for the next few years... but then? After that, I no longer see it that way.

And as I said, I consider heat pumps combined with photovoltaics to be sensible. So, the full market electricity price should not be calculated here, but partly the self-generated electricity. How much one can use there would have to be calculated or estimated individually.

What we as consumers pay is by now quite abstracted from the production costs. While consumer costs are rising, electricity on the exchange is so cheap that modern gas power plants are being shut down and depreciated coal power plants continue to operate. The system is pretty sick. Expensive is what is supposed to be expensive and cheap is what is supposed to be cheap. This really gets on my nerves and therefore my goal is not only the cheapest solution but above all a high degree of self-sufficiency.

The nice thing about electricity is that it can come from many sources, including gas or oil. If one primary source is too expensive, unpopular, or otherwise stigmatized, you simply use another. This keeps production costs stable. What mainly changes are the charges, and that has to do with politics. Currently, politics is switching to electricity, so we switch along. It's that simple. There is nothing more universal.

Then take a look at Switzerland, where this is already being done in multi-family houses. These houses are not connected to the power grid at all. The houses are fully equipped (roof and exterior walls) with photovoltaic panels and in summer hydrogen is produced via electrolysis and nothing is fed into the public grid. The rents for the residents are not much higher than usual. Gas heating systems could also be operated ecologically (we’ve discussed that earlier in the thread). In my opinion both heat pumps and condensing gas boilers have their justification.

Without a solid pillar that is not dependent on weather, wind, temperatures, etc., it won't work! CO2-friendly nuclear power, as also shown when looking beyond borders, as Specki so nicely says.

But that is subjective, just as subjective as the decision between heat pump or gas boiler. In 10-15 years, one can only say "that was the right decision" or "if I had chosen the other, I would have saved a few pennies." The important thing is to remain flexible and be able to convert accordingly in a few decades (underfloor heating, low flow temperatures).
