Tiles, vinyl, or other types of flooring with underfloor heating?

We have installed our (high-quality) laminate floating over our underfloor heating, and it is neither noisy when walking nor cold.

Friends have parquet and no heating, but their feet were also nice and warm here.

Unfortunately, parquet was too expensive for us, which is why we chose the laminate.

We have tiles with a wood look, even tactile with texture. So far, everyone has fallen for it, the chimney sweep even wanted to refuse the fireplace approval because of the missing glass plate. Wood look but the advantages of tiles, especially because of the underfloor heating.

I recommend, for example, the design floor (DS) from Meister, which we have. It is as easy to install as laminate but has a body-warm surface (it absorbs body heat when, for example, you lie on it), is robust, has a nice "soft" feeling underfoot and is not as hard as tiles or laminate, as mentioned a pleasant temperature underfoot, absolutely suitable for underfloor heating, and has the Blue Angel because it contains no PVC/vinyl but PE.

Also a good idea. I also like such tiles. They feel warmer than, for example, parquet in winter. However, in spring/autumn noticeably "colder on the feet" when the heating is already off or not yet on.

We will also have underfloor heating everywhere and will lay parquet on the ground floor (living room, dining room, and kitchen). Currently, the Lindura wooden floor by Meister is favored (there is already a thread about this). The rest of the ground floor plus the bathrooms will have tiles. And the upper floor (hallways, office, and bedrooms) will have printed cork flooring. Parquet throughout is too expensive for us. So, all natural floors and suitable for underfloor heating. I don’t like laminate, vinyl, and such. I don’t like the look of linoleum because it seems very artificial, but that’s a matter of taste. Tiles in the living areas would be too cold for me (summer, transitional seasons) and too hard (we sit a lot on the floor).

You can choose from all kinds of floor coverings according to taste and preference. There are special parquet floors etc. that are suitable for underfloor heating. Then no heat loss occurs.

You should better inform yourself about vinyl, cork, and parquet. Then there are also carpet, linoleum, and laminate (as you have already seen). PVC is basically the same as vinyl... Let’s leave exposed concrete floors aside, natural stone floors, and then there’s stone carpet (rarely used or mentioned, no one knows it?)

If you have open areas or the doors to rooms are often left open, it looks more spacious to cover everything continuously. Also tiles – these retain the heat from the underfloor heating for a long time.

Every floor covering has its characteristics – you have to set priorities whether cleaning, feel, price, or appearance plays a bigger role.

My tip for floor coverings: feel them more often than talk about them

Regards Yvonne
