Is that an Ikea kitchen? Without the draining rack it is undoubtedly much nicer, I would also like it a lot, but we use it every day. I wash at least once a day, for example large pots, cast iron pan, dog bowl, salad spinner, kitchen machine parts, coffee machine brewing group, large casserole dish, etc., and I am very glad that I don't have to dry every piece first because I can't put it anywhere. The cleaned, washed vegetables also stand there to drain before cooking, so I wouldn't know how I could manage without this surface. For example, where do you put a hot pot after cooking?

Best regards
Sabine

Exactly for these reasons, we will install 2 basins. We don't like a draining surface either; a stone-engraved surface is enormously expensive and only fulfills its purpose very poorly. With a second basin, it can additionally be used as this, but at the same time, it serves as a draining basin. A positive side effect is that you don't have the stuff lying around on the countertop, so it’s not as visible. Also, you can quickly store dirty things in it when guests are over.

I simply lay a dish towel on the countertop. Or rather, if I have more, I wash them in the utility room. That way they're out of sight. Water on the countertop doesn’t matter anyway.

Edit: yes, it is an Ikea kitchen.

What is the white front called? A few weeks ago, we had a similarly sized kitchen calculated at the kitchen store and would come to about 18,000 euros there. However, you probably assembled your kitchen yourselves? Ikea apparently only assembles if you buy the built-in appliances there, at least that's what I've heard.

Best regards

@ Curly: Veddinge. It was similar for us. With all the extras, we would have ended up much more expensive as well. And if you assemble it yourself, you can simply add some custom features. We also have interior lighting in every drawer. With an open living area, it’s simply pleasant not to have to turn on the big kitchen light in the evening every time you’re looking for something in a drawer.

With Ikea, you just need to know a few things in advance if you build it yourself. For example, if you don’t want an Ikea countertop (like we didn’t), you have to be aware that Ikea carcasses are deeper, and a standard countertop doesn’t fit. Since we needed 90 cm countertops anyway because of the window recesses, it didn’t matter. For the dishwasher, you need an XXL model or one with a Vario hinge.

Never ever use the Ikea assembly service. That’s absolute rip-off and yes, they only install their own appliances (which I consider mercilessly overpriced, especially the dishwashers) and I think you have to take care of the stove connection yourself.
Our last Ikea kitchen assembly was supposed to cost about 1,500€. We gave the job to MyHammer and paid 500€. I’ve done that with MyHammer several times. I only had to add some connection thingy for the sink (from the hardware store) and that was it. Stove connection no problem, anyone can do it (not everyone is allowed to though). There were three of them, one was in charge and measured and mounted the rails, while the other two assembled the carcasses in no time.

You asked about the cooking pots ... they stay here on the stove (4 people), I don’t need more than four pots and induction doesn’t keep heating after turning off. Otherwise a pot sometimes stays on the countertop. Those who are afraid put a cork coaster underneath.

The front is probably Veddinge. Not the cheapest white but also not the high gloss white (which at Ikea is just foil anyway).
