We do have the chimney installed as well, but I can no longer get excited about the wood stove (which is still missing). I wonder if I won't build it at all, but rather prefer a tomato tent with an exhaust system.

Wait and see. If the power goes out for weeks, at least you won't freeze to death

I love tiled stoves and fireplaces and would have liked to have one that works more like a basic stove, but with a viewing window to watch the fire. Not for ecological reasons, but because it’s so nice to look into the fire on a gray winter evening and so cozy. The warmth was more of a problem because it was too warm in our house. For various reasons, I had to say goodbye to it, but it was hard for me. *sniff*

But still, many people around here still have wood stoves; also heating systems that can (also) be fueled with wood.

We also deliberately decided against a fireplace or, as I would better say, a firepit.

I always had a large fireplace in my parents' house. Here, every year you have to get wood, chop it, let it dry, and when it's already cold outside, go out and fill the basket inside. We always said that such a fireplace heats you up multiple times.

In the end, for me, that would be the only aspect that makes the evening really cozy. Nice and cold and windy outside, and inside the wood crackles away. The warmth is also nice, but in our old house from the 70s, it was not enough to heat everything. Honestly, for me, that would be more of a plaything than anything else.

Opinions about fireplaces differ. I find it cozy, and it's simply an eye-catcher in the living area. You also save some heating costs. But what I also see: The acquisition costs really don't stand in any reasonable proportion... in total, it cost more than a decent mid-range car...
