One more question.
My electrician says that if you don't want your thermostat to be part of the combination unit with the light switch, the thermostat must be connected above the light switch but ..... slightly offset ...... I want an affordable option for the granny flat, but now it looks ugly with the finished channelling.

Has anyone else heard the same?

No, no one made a mistake. We overlooked it in the drawing. So it's all our fault.
