The classic masonry facade here was previously made of sand-lime brick, then Ytong. These materials absorb water. The weather problem here is driven rain, that is rain driven by wind, where no roof overhang provides protection. Therefore, clinker was traditionally the best masonry protection. Today, however, modern plasters also provide the same tightness. - Disadvantage of plaster: You have to repaint every few years; but for bungalows, this is not an issue - it can be done with a step ladder.

Hello.....?!?!?! always these pointless discussions... everyone does as they think and as they like. I believe some here in the board have nothing better to do than constantly throw jabs and talk things down.... don't you all have anything else to do? Now pictures would be great again!

With us, you only see clinker bricks on old houses in village centers on the main street or at old train stations, in new development areas only very rarely one. How is it in new development areas in northern Germany, how high is the proportion of houses with clinker bricks there?

Best regards
Sabine

Here 50% clinker, 30% wood, 20% plaster.

For Hamburg and the surrounding area, I would estimate more than 50% plaster. Here, the floor is probably already so expensive that savings are made there.

Here in our area, the brick proportion is over 80%. In villages, rather over 90%. I also have to admit that before I dealt with the topic of house construction, I associated plaster facades with "completely negative." I only learned since building the house that this was complete nonsense. I dare say that a large part here thinks the same way. In my circle of friends, a lot of construction is going on at the moment, and except for one exception, no one even considered plaster as an option. The exception, by the way, was actually due to financial reasons. It’s crazy how much regions differ. In the south, you can probably confirm this from my experience if you swap the terms plaster and brick. Whatever, everyone should build the way that suits them and be happy with it. After all, you build for yourself and not to please others.
