Thank you ! You don't necessarily have to be completely silent, but polite behavior and respect for others' tastes should be maintained. Comments like "I find lighter wood more beautiful" or "I prefer concrete stairs" are sufficient.

I think comments are important. They allow you to find out why someone explicitly chose the supposedly old-fashioned, unusual, even impractical variant. Maybe there are aspects that one hasn't considered yet. That adds value in my opinion. But it's all about the tone. Pure flattery is useless. If you only want to hear ohs and ahs, you should go to Insta, as someone already wrote [Liesels Dia Club] isn't supposed to become that either.

Pointing out technical / craftsmanship errors is also very important, as they can possibly still be corrected or subsequent builders will know what to pay attention to. But this should also be done in the right tone. So, for example, "The electrical cables were laid incorrectly. Actually, they should not cross each other." and not "Which idiot did that?" That simply does not help.

This pink fluffy world just doesn't exist, being polite is a must but you have to be able to take criticism. In this case, it also hits someone who himself has quite a big mouth and I believe can therefore handle criticism well. I am also sure that there are always reasons. Be it simply budget or layout in this case, nothing better is possible, etc.

You don’t have to take criticism if it targets the person. We don’t know each other well enough here to presume that of each other. I side with Eugen Roth: Warning A person, seduced by blind anger, Blows into the next best horn. Now he realizes, after the first rage, That he blew into the wrong horn. Too late! The unwanted sound Has loudly escaped into the whole world. If there is to be morality, it would be this: That one better not blow at all!
