First the kitchen, then the floor?

Yep. We are installing click vinyl and it will only be laid up to the kitchen because of the heavy weight. Otherwise, it might click loose again in some spots. That's what the manufacturer says, so we stick to it.

Why didn't you make the island wider? Off the top of my head, 30 or 40 cm would have been possible without any problems, and I think that wouldn't have hurt.

Then the passage between the patio door and on the other side with the refrigerator (not in the picture) would have become too narrow. Now the island is just as wide as the passage to the living room.

But yes, it does look a bit puny compared to the islands you usually see here. For cooking twice a week, it is enough for us. And that is the most important thing about your own house. You have to like it yourself.

What distances do you have? Is that a sliding door? Our kitchen is not dissimilar, on the left we have 63cm to the window lintel edge and that is more than enough as secondary pathways. On the other side, there are 107cm.
