Well, that’s not really very sensible, though, to put in too little for a burn.What do you want to say with that? The kW specifications for the fireplace only indicate how much you could fire it, but you don't have to! You can also just put a few logs in a fireplace designed for 8.7 kW: small fire and short duration = little heat.
If the chimney sweep has approved it (in our case, the notification for the shell construction acceptance states, for example, 7-8 kW), then you can definitely make use of that, a larger fireplace always looks better than one that is too small. (My opinion) How little you actually fire is fortunately up to you.
We have a KfW55 house with a heating load of, I think, 7.4 kW. Our wood stove has an output of 12 kW and I’m not sitting in front of it in my swimming trunks. It all just depends on the installation.
In my parents’ house, they decided against it at the time because of the money. We didn’t, and are glad about that decision. There is nothing more beautiful than watching the play of flames.
