Exactly our thought: We will have a parapet wall in the stairwell and walls on the outside. Still, we wonder whether a handrail makes sense or visually disturbs. The idea currently is to paint the wall white and also take the handrail in white. Possibly use the handrail for an LED strip...

What is function anyway - the paved-over front yard? There is already an enormous range here.

In principle, I am completely with . Children have to learn to assess situations and dangers. For that, it certainly does not make sense to introduce a high everyday risk into the home, but also not to secure and make everything unbreakable for every eventuality. Falling down is part of learning to walk, and recognizing dangers is part of becoming capable of living. As a parent, finding a good balance between fear and trust is not easy when you are constantly judged around you. What is perfectly normal for one person is already grossly negligent for another. The job is to make children independently capable of living, and ultimately you have to let them go and let them make their own mistakes. This includes the positive experience of self-competence (something succeeded without the help of another), as well as the experience of learning from mistakes. From my point of view, we are currently tending rather towards pampering and raising children driven by fear.

I wasn't concerned about the general presence of a stair railing. I consider that wise even as an adult, because I also sometimes get seasick :)

With increased "seasickness," I would prefer to move on all fours ... Then I wouldn’t need a handrail either. Rather an LED strip on the floor that shows me the way [und ggfs. einfach zu verstehende Hinweisschilder an kritischen (Weg)Punkten ... ]

Railings are great for climbing... When running up the stairs, (sons) prefer to make contact with the wall. Paint will fix it again eventually.

A handrail is therefore not necessarily mandatory (DIN and so)?
Then you can also change a handrail (from one side to the other)
