Hello merlin83,

I saw your house in the picture thread. Looks great! We want exactly the same kind of roof covering as you have. I've only seen this on two houses and think it has something special.

However, we don't have any further information about it yet, so I wanted to ask if you could give me a few key points regarding "smooth vs. wavy" roof coverings.

Are there any advantages or disadvantages of one variant or the other? Are there significant price differences? Do you perhaps have the manufacturer/model/color name of your tiles for me?

The topic hasn’t come up for us yet, so I haven’t looked into it more closely, but now that I saw your picture I just had to ask. Private messaging doesn’t work with you, probably on purpose?

Thanks and best regards!

hello everyone,

: Thanks, good idea. Our property is 583m², roughly 450m² need to be mulched.

: looks good!

: Utility or living basement? For economic reasons, we decided against it. We are located in the catchment area of an open-pit mine; when it is flooded, the groundwater level will rise from the current 22m to an expected 6m.

Regards, Rina

These are simply flat roof tiles - you see them here more often. We wanted them at first too, but two things made us change our mind:

Installing a photovoltaic system is more difficult because the tiles usually do not allow mounting brackets. And they have to be laid very carefully, otherwise it quickly looks bad. Overall okay with Merlin, but inevitably not so nice around the roof windows.

Also, they cost almost twice as much - and with all due respect: you never actually look at them afterwards - even now shortly before moving in, I don’t stand in front of it and think my roof is cool - it’s just there. This is the case with so many things where you worry a thousand times beforehand and in the end you don’t pay attention to it at all yourself.

Hello Sirhc,

Thanks for the compliment. There probably aren't any advantages or disadvantages. At least neither the roofer nor the architect, despite proven competence, have said anything about it. --> Just do it!!! I found the roofing trade quite affordable anyway, so the extra cost didn’t really bother me.

Attached is the excerpt from the invoice (net).

I would take them again because I find them the nicest and they always catch my eye when looking at a house.

Best regards,

Merlin

Hi,

It will be something between a utility and a living basement. For the time being, one room will be used as an office, one as a workshop, and one as a technical room. Then there is still a 44 sqm room left as storage space. It is already intended to be divided someday into half storage, half home theater. Whether we will ever actually do that, I don't know...
The finished ceiling height in the basement will only be about 2.25 m. For office use and the like, that's sufficient in my opinion.

Best regards,
Andreas
