Why we chose zips is due to construction reasons. We definitely wanted room height and very wide windows; this would have conflicted with the rather large packages of the venetian blinds in timber construction. External cassette boxes were not an option for us, so we decided on the zips. The zips are also less susceptible to wind and hail.
Unfortunately, these things are naturally significantly more expensive than venetian blinds, which was clear.
