No idea if it’s any consolation. But we feel the same. Both working full-time, child = full day.
We go out there every weekend. The rest is handled by our architect/site manager.

How far away from work are you building?

Us? With rush hour and picking up a child, about three quarters of an hour.

So it's not just us. Sometimes I read other blogs and think "I wish I could be that present on the construction site." But that's why we also took a general contractor we've heard a lot of good things about, we hope we can rely on them.

For us about 25-30 minutes. But currently with Corona and home office, it's the distance from the old apartment to the new one, and that's more like 40 minutes. We occasionally drive during lunch break, but with almost 1.5 hours of driving time and some time spent on the construction site, you can't afford that every day. The hours then need to be made up for in the evening.

I am on the construction site at least every day after work - the site is a 200m walk away and honestly: If it were different and I couldn’t constantly talk to the craftsmen, I don’t think I would feel so confident that everything is being done right. If something happens, I get called and am there in 2 minutes. Respect to those who have the patience not to go to the site for a week.

Our architect, who is also a good acquaintance, is there several times a day and coordinates everything very well. We are constantly in contact via WhatsApp and phone, even on weekends. I think we are very lucky in that regard. That’s why we are quite relaxed.
