The railing is painted black. It has some advantages: it can be easily touched up and it is cheaper. According to my metalworker, powder coating the railing would have been very complicated because it is so large. I like the look, even if some paint chips off sometimes, it then fits the fireplace all the better.

Your metalworker definitely tricked you there. Powder coating is very simple and relatively cheap. He probably just didn't have the right equipment for it... I have a similar size and a much more elaborate railing. It was no problem at all...

The shower looks like this (still without built-in cabinet):

Yeah, much better. That plain gray with those 70s ornament tiles... you just don't see that anymore. The accents with the black frames and the green fittings.... very modern!

There is no simpler method to apply the coating evenly on a construction like a railing, with many edges and weld seams.
My steel stringers were painted. A total of 3 times really thick. Very time-consuming, among other things due to drying times.
Powder coating is an easier process by comparison.
It is much more robust anyway.

Are you sure about that?? As far as I know, painting is rather more robust. You usually have more material, too. You can paint the railing on site. I don't know why it was done 3 times with you. For us, it got a primer and once the actual paint. And for large parts, you also first need the right machine. Powder coating is also known to me as the rather more expensive option.
